The Eremites

Albert’s dominant mother and his invalid father continue to run their distant mountain farm, after she insisted that Albert finds himself a new life down in the valley. He makes a living in a high tech marble quarry. Introverted Albert, however, finds it hard to connect with his work mates, the atmosphere is rough at the quarry. Like an outcast animal returning to its familiar territory, sometimes he sneaks onto the farm to spend the night in the hay. His colleague Paola, a migrant worker from Hungary, seems to finally stir his emotional world …

Ronny Trocker's juxtaposition of two neighbouring realities, which couldn’t be further away from each other, opens up fascinating visual spaces and has its very own associative rhythm. A debut film of rare stylistic clarity.
